New Walk Editions was founded in 2017 with a view to publishing a ‘broad church’ of pamphlets each year – two in the Autumn and two in the Spring. The press has an open submissions policy and a commitment to producing attractively designed and affordable pamphlets, with a cover price or a subscription model of payment. Established names are published alongside debut poets, with design done in house by one of the editors. Promotion is often a struggle for presses run by small teams, but New Walk offers launch events (including online launches and interviews) and support for their writers in setting up readings and festival appearances. They also, unusually and impressively, commit to keeping all their titles in print. New Walk describes itself as ‘a labour of love’, and it shows. There’s an evident commitment to building a broad and strong list, including a recent open competition to find excellent performance poets to offer them a first appearance on the page. We look forward to seeing more fine work from this innovative and exciting publisher.
